BCA

The Building Code of Australia (BCA) is the building standards component of the National Construction Code (NCC). It sets the minimum technical requirements for the design and construction of buildings throughout Australia, covering areas such as structural safety, fire safety, health, amenity, accessibility, and energy efficiency. Although commonly referred to as the BCA, it now forms Volumes One and Two of the NCC.

• Building Standards: Establishes minimum requirements for the design and construction of residential, commercial, and public buildings.
• Compliance Pathways: Includes both Deemed-to-Satisfy (DtS) provisions and Performance Solutions for achieving compliance.
• Fire & Life Safety: Specifies requirements for fire resistance, egress, essential safety measures, and occupant protection.
• Accessibility & Sustainability: Includes provisions for disability access, energy efficiency, health, and amenity to create safe and functional buildings.

The BCA is a cornerstone of Australia's building regulatory framework and remains a widely recognised industry term, despite now being incorporated within the National Construction Code (NCC). It provides the technical benchmark for compliant building design and construction across Australia.
